Junior Classes
The pupils in the Junior Classes discover, explore and learn in an environment with toys, puzzles and equipment designed to stimulate their sensory and creative development. Play is a very important part of the learning process as pupils learn vital communication skills, problem solving and motor development. The pupils are encouraged to read from the Class and School Library which are regularly restocked. The Library contains exciting picture books, fiction and nonfiction titles, designed to stimulate their imagination.
In the Junior Classes, we learn how to interact with each other and with our environment through play. We take part in all activities the school has to offer. We learn to hurl and play tennis with the coaches that visit the school. We are learning water safety and swimming in Coral Leisure Centre. We participate in the Active Flag Programme which includes Hip Hop Dancing and we received our First Active Flag in 2017.

Discover Science is a programme of work incorporating science experiments, maths and the environment.
We have received this Excellence Award on four occasions.
Portumna Book Festival takes place every year and we love taking part in poetry writing and art. The Shorelines Writing Competition inspires us to use our skills in poetry and prose. We enjoy history and especially local history trips.
