Discover Primary Science Centre

An Gairdin is a Discover Primary Science Centre located in Portumna , Co.Galway. We made a visit there in March 2018. Our facilitators explained that everything in the centre has a place and purpose..

The focus of the centre is Environmental Awareness and Care, Conserving resources and energy and promoting sustainability.

As our area of interest was Water, we learned about how rainwater is harvested, filtered and used in" Iontas" and in the organic garden.

We explored the Organic Garden and the Growing Tunnels. We learned about seed saving, crop rotation, composting , drainage and  organic fencing.
